It should be 5/16 x 26 tpi CEI. If you are at 3/8" then I suspect someone has made one up. ACME should be able to supply one.

I am surprised at the problem with the petrol tank mounting. Son Rob has changed from a centre bolt tank to a fluted type without problems on his VH. Using the fluted tank, there is always the issue of tank rubber thicknesses to deal with and this can be far from straightforward.

Wide fork centres are 7 3/8". They are visibly different from the narrow ones. See my article on the subject in Cheval from 26 years ago ! Incidentally, the "good authority" quoted in the article was the late Frank Wilkins.
