Re: Brake plate failure

Dear all, I think this is a very serious safety issue because failure of the full width hub brake can lead to an accident. The old brakeplates have failed many times so far. My personal experience on my 1956 bike is that I had the front and rear brake shoes relined after some of the old linings star...

Hi John,
I could help with a complete raw cast WNG aluminium primary chaincase for an early WNG. Let me know if you are interested.

Re: Brake "wedge holder"

The part on my 1951 NH was exactly the same. I bought a replacement made in brass some time ago at a annual rally auto jumble.
Works fine now.

Jerry,
if I am correct, Otto Mederle had recast some of those some time in the past. There might be one left?!
Hope that helps

So the only wetness could have come from some autumn fog in the mornings. I would like to point out that it only happened to the std setup of the brake in the r...

Hi Nev,
a good contact in the czech republic is Jiri Horice and his web page is this: http://www.vintage-replica.cz.
The VH barrel is not listed anymore but if you get in touch with him he should give you advice where to get.
Hope that helps

Full width hub locking

Hi all, after my bike with FWH (1956) stood outside for a few nights the rear brake locked solid when I first gently applied it. Luckily it was the rear brake and also I was only doing 25 Km/h. When I applied it the 2nd time a few meters on it locked again and made an unusual noise. The bolt that ho...

Hi Dave,
I remember that new VH barrels (pre 1954) were offered by the czech Ariel club. I have seen one and it looked very good.
Hope that helps
