Re: SQ4 Brake Light Switch

Simes I originally bent the brake rod to fit long before fitting the lower guard . Fortunately it did not need bending again. Attached is the best I can do with the bike in the garage hopefully the brake switch can be seen, and although everything is close , there is no fouling or other contact - De...

Re: SQ4 Brake Light Switch

Simes Only a few months ago I bought one of these for my 51 square 4 and it fits fine I have the brake rod as for that year and it is a tight fit. I've only just put the bike back in the garage after a 75 mile blast down the motorway but will try and get a couple of pics for you if you are having tr...

Re: Square Four Push Rods

that's not good Are you sure the engine is timed correctly and the cam is not hitting the pistons? Also are you sure the bottom end of each pushrod is located in the relevant follower - it is possible for two push rods to be operated by one follower if not housed properly (easily done) - check by se...

Re: 4G Conrod Advice

Hi
I agree with Chris - when your bombing along you don't want to worry about a rod failure. These engines sound so busy when your moving along at speed and new rods will give you the confidence to use and appreciate the finer points of the motor

Re: square 4 advance retard mechanism

Checked things over thoroughly today and without a doubt I can only tighten up the centre screw if I have a washer/spacer of some kind to stop the two shafts binding. I tried a cut down spring to act like a washer - better, but still binding a bit. Now I've tried a very small section of copper brake...

Re: square 4 advance retard mechanism

Keith / Paul / Simes thanks for the help and advice clearly something wrong and Drags show the washer to be 185021 on their website. Paul interesting that your washer is not present but the shafts aren't locked. Simes I have the proper screw with the oil hole in the centre but I think Keith is right...

square 4 advance retard mechanism

Dear all as promised on a different thread/topic I had a look at my cam on my distributor today to see if there was any discernible wear - there was none I'm pleased to say. Looking at the mechanism more closely with the baseplate removed, I noticed I couldn't make the bob weights swing out when tur...

Re: Drags Electronic Ignition Mk11 ignition light

I hadn't thought it through properly . Best I inspect it thoroughly over the weekend.
Thanks for the good advice. really helpful

Re: Drags Electronic Ignition Mk11 ignition light

Paul thanks for the advice, Ill try looking for play in the system next weekend. I must admit I am happy with the distributor and points set up and I don't get any particular issues. I might just replace the bushes if there is any play in the system , but I think the idea of carrying spare baseplate...

Re: Drags Electronic Ignition Mk11 ignition light

Keith I've contemplated fitting one of these kits but wondered if there were any discernible benefits and what were the disadvantages. Does the unit drain or require more current etc . Also be good to know in what way is your square 4 better. Better idle, pick up etc. Any advice would be good before...
