Re: SQ4 Mis-Fire

Simes difficult to say. Could either be ignition or carburation. Mine has a tendency for the pilot to partially block causing problems at the lower end but usually I can nurse it through to the main jet where the problem will disappear. I also have a volt meter fitted and if travelling at low speeds...

Re: square 4 remote oil filter fitment.

Simes
thanks-I did bend the return pipe about 130 degrees, but I think a length of copper pipe may give me better clearances. I was trying to minimise the joints to reduce the inevitable leaks. I will have another look at it today.
Cheers

Re: Ammeter Repair

I rebuilt my red dot ammeter after my crash 3 years ago - what fun! I had to get an non working britax ammeter from an auto jumble sale and transfer the gubbings from the red dot into the emptied out casings. (with some delicate repair work) I added a bulb for the ignition and it all worked fine - i...

Re: square 4 remote oil filter fitment.

Whoops must have hit the submit button... in error.. Anyway to continue with the topic - what a nightmare of a job! Probably has taken me over 6 hours in the heat of summer and I haven't even finished yet. I looked at Simes blog on line and my routing of the pipes looks something similar, but there ...

Re: Anstey Shimmy

I must admit I haven't ridden the Ariel for a few weeks and have been using other bikes from the stables - mainly a garden gate Norton inter. Its when you go back to riding the Ariel again you realise how pronounced the issue is with handling compared to other period bikes. Thing is - as you reacqua...

Re: Anstey Shimmy

Chaps all good ideas with the damping and well needed with the Anstey set up. I never just use the back brake due to the strange effect on grab - as described a bit like a loose wheel for a second or two. Front brake first followed by the rear for best results (and that's not great) I also notice th...

Re: Hot & Steamy

I agree with Paul I have a tufnol spacer fitted and it does help keep the temperature down whilst on the move, but when in traffic at a standstill the carb gets loads of heat radiating from the engine. dynamo and oil tank. Switching the engine off isn't a bad idea and it will swing to life quickly w...

Re: replacing the dynamo oil seal - square 4

Simes As ever, thanks for the advice - I should have thought at looking at your blog. An hour to sort it sounds fine. I just took the ol girl for a 26 mile run - doing about 65mph and was getting a healthy charge, but when the motor cools I will take the end cap off and see if more oil has found its...

Re: replacing the dynamo oil seal - square 4

Simes
thanks for the link. Was it an easy job? I'm tempted to live with the leak until the autumn but wasn't sure if it was an area where loads of oil would get through and end up stopping the dynamo charging
