Re: Hot & Steamy

I agree with Paul I have a tufnol spacer fitted and it does help keep the temperature down whilst on the move, but when in traffic at a standstill the carb gets loads of heat radiating from the engine. dynamo and oil tank. Switching the engine off isn't a bad idea and it will swing to life quickly w...

Re: replacing the dynamo oil seal - square 4

Simes As ever, thanks for the advice - I should have thought at looking at your blog. An hour to sort it sounds fine. I just took the ol girl for a 26 mile run - doing about 65mph and was getting a healthy charge, but when the motor cools I will take the end cap off and see if more oil has found its...

Re: replacing the dynamo oil seal - square 4

Simes
thanks for the link. Was it an easy job? I'm tempted to live with the leak until the autumn but wasn't sure if it was an area where loads of oil would get through and end up stopping the dynamo charging

replacing the dynamo oil seal - square 4

Hi all I've noticed I'm getting a quantity of oil in the dynamo of my square 4 which leaks out when i take the end cap off. Are the oil seals easily replaced, and does the whole dynamo and distributor need to come off? Also do the new oil seals work well - or is some leakage into the dynamo body acc...

Re: 52 SQ4 - Oil Tank Extension

yes
I saw this at charterhouses auction
Surprised at the price it fetched seeming that the rocker gear was missing and the other 'mods' to the oil tank.
Lets see how long it takes to sell....

Re: Kick Start Jamming

Simes Ive always accepted it as part and parcel of British biking. Nearly all bikes I've had tend to do it - some more than others. The only exception I can think of is my Norton's with AMC boxes as opposed to burmans - My Vincent twin is probably the worst offender. Its usually the quadrant but som...

Re: Ariels at the 2018 Bristol Classic Show-1

I also attended the Bristol show (although its at shepton mallet) Great display of Ariels on the stand as pictured in this topic, well done to everyone involved, some lovely bikes . I also gravitated to the panther stand as an owner of a m100 and red panther.- Once again some well restored machines ...

Re: Castrol Classic XL 20w/50

Hi Simes I never read that part of you blog on oil lines until today as my Ariel always seemed ok on pressure (but probably over oils on the rockers) When i bought mine (which was in a time warp from 1963) the larger diameter pipe was already connected to the rockers. Seems strange that someone else...
