Re: Trade Hartley Alloy Barrel for WNG CP Box

Thanks for the information folks. The Trials and competition theories makes sense as this box came with a load of spares when I bought two 1939 Ariel 250s - one OG and one OH. The OH was a Hartley engined trials machine last used in the late 40s/early 50s and the OG was mid way through a conversion ...

Re: Trade Hartley Alloy Barrel for WNG CP Box

Hi Wade, I'm not sure if the box I have is for a W/NG but I believe it's from a WD machine. Whether it was mounted on an Ariel or Matchless I don't know. The number stamped into the top is: X1 (could be XI) CPBL 35593. I've posted a photo of it and I'm sure someone who knows more than I do will be a...

Re: Oil Pressure Gauge onto a WNG

The 1939/40 models OG and OH 250s had a hole in the centre of the fuel tank for an oil gauge. I think these tanks are the same size and have the same mounting points as a W/NG (but may be wrong). They are hard to come by as only a few hundred were made before the war came and the models were dropped...

Girder Fork Overhaul

I recently collected two sets of girder forks which I’d sent to Paul MacDougall in Marford near Wrexham for overhaul. One set was from a 1910 Humber and the other from a 1914 New Hudson (sorry no Ariels this time!). They were completed in a couple of weeks, new spindles were made out of the correct ...

Old Ledger

A few years ago I bought some old ledgers dating from 1895 to the 1930s intending that one day I’d sit down and look at them. Well, the recent snow gave me that opportunity. The first one I opened was from 1926 and relates to W. Delf & Sons, Motor and General Engineers of Waveney Works, Northgat...

Re: Wasted day ..

This is a long shot but.... A few months ago a mate of mine had the same problem with a 1930s Triumph XO 150 he'd freshly restored. I took over the carb from my XO to try as he couldn't get the bike to start although occasionally it would fire once and stop. We put my carb on and it started. Turns o...

1939 Square Four rear mudguard wanted

Has anyone out there got an original or repro (not Indian) valanced rear mudguard for a 1939 Ariel Square Four for sale by any chance? I'm happy to pay cash or alternatively I have some spares which I can swap. Thanks for any help - someone out there must have one!

Oil Pressure

I may or may not have a problem with my 1939 Ariel OH 250. Hope someone on here can help: The bike is a 1939 250 OH with a 350 Hartley alloy barrel, Hartley gas flowed head, higher compression piston, larger inlet valve, Hartley cam etc etc. The engine was built in the early 1950s and I rebuilt it t...

Ariel OG/OH Chaincases

Has anyone got one of these outer chain-cases and the corresponding inner part (sorry, no photo of that one) lying around that they don't need? It's a chain-case for a 1939 Ariel 250 OG/OH and were made only for this model (I think). I have various pre and post war Ariel spares to swap or of course ...
