Re: EBay scam

The VMCC club magazine last month highlighted a scammer who calls himself Tom Baxter. This person replies to wanted advertisements saying he has the parts needed. He asks for payment via bank transfer and promises to send the parts which never arrive. I received a few calls from him in reply to a wa...

Re: 1927 Model A Half Time pinion

Hi Richard, can't help with the pinion but I do have a couple of timing covers with brass badges on. Is this what you're looking for?

Ariel OG/OH Burman H Gearbox

Just renewing my regular call for a 4 speed Burman 'H' or 'HP' gearbox. It's the oval/triangular shaped one and as far as I'm aware only fitted to the 1939 250s in the Ariel range and also the pre-war AJS model 12 250s and reputedly some pre-war Red Panthers. These were often plundered for fitting i...

Does anyone have any of these?

I'm restoring a 1939 Model OG 250 and it's missing the four speed Burman H/HP gearbox and also the inner and outer chain-cases. Unfortunately these are both unique to the '39 250s and so are a tad difficult to find. The H/HP gearboxes were very popular with the trials and grass-track boys apparently...

Hi Brenton, thanks for the info on the older pressed steel primary cases. I didn't realise they could fit the later models. I've just had a look at a photo of my 1930 model B and the mounting lugs appear to be in the same place plus it has the hole for the footrest bar. I'm working away at the momen...

Re: Burman HP Gearbox

Thanks Brenton, I wish it were so with this bike. Unfortunately not. I've uploaded a photo of the cases on my OH 250 - completely different from anything else I believe. If all else fails I may well end up doing what you suggest and using a CP box and adapting a pressed steel one to cover it all. I ...

Thanks Nev these are good points. I'll have to compare the gearbox plate mounts on the frame and see if they're the same or if there's scope to alter the plates when I get some. I doubt the primary cases will be the correct length - they're quite short and compact. I'll have to get some plates and h...

Thanks Nev I'll keep an eye open for some VCH plates just in case this is the way I need to go. By the way I had some OG/OH engine and gearbox plates laser cut as the ones on my OG were some bodged up home made aluminium ones. It was virtually as cheap (or expensive depending which way you look at i...

Thanks John, I got you mixed up in my earlier post with John Gleeson who also posted on here some time ago and may have been the person who bought your bike judging by the parts he was looking for. Would I be right in thinking that a set of pre war 350 gearbox plates and a CP or GB gearbox will fix ...

Thanks to everyone for the help. I like the James May option but can see me dissolving vital parts of myself so thought I'd better not try it! It's actually the same type of casting process as where I got the quotes from to replicate the chain-cases. The bike came with a CP box in a set of home made...
