Re: Ariel in Motor Cycling 1930/31

And some more. Some from Motor Cycling 1930/31 and one from 1931/2. I'll try and put some on each day but in any case John will put them all in the Library so they'll all be in one place.... Ariel in Motor Cycling 1930/31

With at least another three weeks of lockdown I thought I'd take a day off from the Ariels in the garage and, with far too much time on my hands I went through volume 48 of Motor Cycling (November 1930 to May 1931) and scanned anything to do with Ariels. Some were road tests, some opinion pieces, a ...

Looking for 1939 OG/OH 250 parts

It's time for my regular appeal for 1939 OG or OH 250 parts: I'm looking particularly for chaincases, a clutch, petrol tank, oil tank, rear mudguard, battery holder and a Burman HP gearbox. Actually any parts whatsoever for one of these bikes will be welcome including a project bike. I've had some c...

Sprocket Makers

I need to get a couple of sprockets for a 1939 OG 250 and as they have a different pitch and number of teeth than other Ariel four stokes they're next to impossible to find and so I'm looking to have some made. Can anyone recommend a company or individual? I have a set of worn originals to work from...

Flat Tank Ariel bits for sale

I'm never going to use these bits as they're either surplus to or not right for my 1920 V twin. There's a frame section from about 1923 (frame number S319) which needs a down tube, a set of girder fork blades from the same period which need re-tubing and a tank which may require a bit of sealing as ...

Ariels at Chas Cope

I was at Disco Dez Scooters at Dunley today as I'm restoring a 1952 Douglas Vespa rod model and naturally the conversation turned to Ariels. Des dug out some old photo's he has of one of Chas Cope's shops, probably in 1937 as there's an advertisement for reduced prices on 1936 models. He kindly sent...

Astra/Ariel for sale in Italy

I didn't know about Astra/Ariels being made in Italy until I saw this listing for an auction in Milan. It looks very much like an MF32. Astra 1.jpg Astra 2.jpg A (Google) translation of the accompanying text: Active in Milan from 1931 to 1953, Astra was based in Via Lanzone and was founded by Max Tu...
