Re: Girder Fork, refurbishment

Ray Daniels did my 1930 forks. He bushed them. He's often at founders day. There were plenty of postings on the old forum about this subject quite a while ago and another girder fork restorer didn't come out too well from that.

Re: Bike Insurance. Who are you using? Advice please.

I've bounced back between the two of them. It seems that once they have you they assume that you'll be too lazy to challenge the unaccountable hike in rates at the end of the year. If you phone after the renewal quote then they usually drop the price in a jiffy. I have never had to call on a policy ...

I was just looking at my 1930 owners guide which should give a good indication. There is one in the library...

Re: 1920 Ariel

I think that a perfectionist wheel builder would worry about the angle of the drilled holes in the rim and would probably like to drill their own. A less worried type will just lace up whatever you give them so long as the hole count matches. It might be worth starting off with a chosen wheel builde...

Re: Black Ariel Battery Platform

Paul. I have recently been sent a diagram of the 1930 battery carrier straps by Vic Horley which you may find useful which I will upload to this posting. I don't have any drawings of the platform itself but mine is off the bike at the moment so I could make you a drawing if that would be useful. PS ...

I don't know all the details about the 1950 tank panel but I think that half way through they year they changed it. Certainly the speedo was moved to the top of the top fork yoke and the panel was altered so that there was no speedo hole. I wonder if they removed the inspection lamp hole as well? Fr...

Re: What are you listening to?

I'm a jazzer too. Met Gillad Atzmon about ten years ago at the Vortex and he was telling me how he was searching for a Gibson 335 (we didn't speak about saxophones). The so called biker music was before my time and so were the rocker generation bikes. Good shed music for me might include Tribal Tech...

Re: VB with VH top end - much bigger jets ?

I would have thought that 200 was ok. The slide cutaway might be an issue. It all depends on what amount of throttle opening you're having the problems.

Re: VH Alloy Head Valve Guide Issues

Although I'm no expert I have managed to put in new valve guides on non Ariel alloy heads using the same technique as you've described and have never had a problem and I'd be surprised if the baking tray was a problem. You could try leaving it in for longer to be sure. So, clutching at straws... Is ...

Re: trouble light on panel tanks

These brass ones are also expensive on ebay second hand. Beware that they make the eyes of thieves glint with joy so if you do buy a nice one then you might want to think about leaving it unattended.
