You need to know what sealant type it is first. I used to have the flexible red aircraft type and it tool two goes at getting it out.

Although an oil scraper ring will reduce some oil burn, your original problem was unusually high oil consumption so it sounds like whatever you do with the piston that you will still have your original problem. Maybe some attention to the oil pump and a clean of the oil system will work.

I usually get my rubbers from Hunter Engineering. Typically for unusual sizes they will make the rubbers and it takes some weeks. I have Amal rubbers on my straight pull throttle (1937 NH). I usually buy two sets so that I have one in reserve and keep the spare one in a plastic bag away from the air...

I've had an oil pump which was not scavenging properly so the crank case level increased but this did cause a smoke screen. If the oil is dissappearing then is is either being burnt (in which case you'll have a smokefest) or its escaping onto the road somewhere. If there is no smoke then I wonder if...
