If you have this right, go back to the first and do it again until your happy. But in most cases the slide and needle are to worn to do this good, so send it to your lokal...

Re: foreign repairs

Your export numbers won't help. Some history; during WW2 all Dutch motorcycles and cars where force collected, scrapped, to make tanks and guns. From 1960 to 1980 we bought them back from all over the world, including n.o.s. parts, when no one was interested. There where collectors with more than 20...

Re: Forged verses cast flywheels

Surfboards and catemarans are sanded for the same reason.

From own experians; with a two stroke it has to be even rougher.

Re: foreign repairs

Sorry no details.

Only that there are +/- 600 Ariels in the Netherlands of all models exept the 1916 two stroke, (if they exist).
Atleast 200 are in hidden collections.
There are more than 100 in a circel of 50km.

Forged verses cast flywheels

Steel flywheels are; bigend easier to clean from slutch, better balanced, can do higher rev's without coming apart, flat on the outside. Against; bigend pinhole is often worn when bought. Cast are; good enough for all roadgoing Ariels including trials. Against; to weak to have the slutchplug center ...

Re: crankshaft assembly mystery

I am using a 2 mm very hard drill, but the pin isn't all that hard.

I have had more than 10 steel crank Ariel's when I could only buy the "other" new old stock bigends.

With a steel crank the oil way is going stait trough the bigend, with your cast one it's along the side.
