Re: Temperamental Leader

I should have added on the last post that the throttle needs to be fully open when kicking the bike over 10 times to clear the cylinders. I've used it over the years and it does work.

Re: Temperamental Leader

Re fuel, I've heard a lot about stale fuel and the problems it causes but after not using the bikes for a few weeks or even months they always start fairly easily . The only problem I had was with a tank in which the liner came off with the ethanol content. Aspen fuel lasts longer and does not go of...

Re: Optional extras

Hello, The phone charger is very useful on camp sites, it saves having to find a mains socket. The power outlets are useful -- forward thinking on Ariels part but intended as a light hearted comment. The side panels are fibre glass so easy to work on and not cutting up original parts. The other side...

Re: Colours of general fittings

Hi, My Leader handle bars were plated, it looked like dull chrome rather than zinc or some other plate. The exhaust pipes had a similar finish as though they had been shot blasted and then chrome plated. Brian H. ps I think towards the end of the Leader production there were variations in finish/equ...

Re: Colours of general fittings

Hi Simon, This may or may not help on colours . When new my 64/65 Leader ( black and Ivory ) had black handle bar cover, ivory rear brake pedal/lever, black foot rests and the rear mudguard was in grey/green primer. I think the colours changed over the years some Leaders had the handle bar cover in ...

Re: Recommended Spark Plugs

Hi Terry, I used Champion plugs originally when the bike was put back on the road, N4 I think but now use NGK plugs -- B7ES , I have tried B8ES but not noticed any difference in performance. Some riders are trying the Iridium plugs a bit more expensive at around £ 8-00 each and reporting better star...

Re: Leader tyres & white walls

Hi Tony, There were some tyres advertised on e bay by a dealer who bought a large batch from France, the tyres had reached their sell by date but are otherwise OK. I use Dunlop ,Mitchelin or Heidenau tyres, although the first two are getting harder to obtain. John Ellis of AOMCC 2T spares or Keith H...
