Re: Primary chain lubrication.

Hello, I use 20 grade oil in the primary chaincase and it works OK, even with a load of camping gear on the Leader. As Roger suggests , check the adjustment. It is possible to adjust the pressure of the clutch by mean of the washers in the spring cup assembly. See diagram in manual. I find with the ...

Re: Arrow seat required

Hi,

Have you tried Keith near Chester, he may have a seat or parts to make one up and have or know where to get some expansion boxes. I can give you his number via the message facility on the site, if you do not already have it.

Re: MK 2 Ariel Leader

The MK 2 Leader which Eddie put together is of a very high standard, it was his efforts which spurred me on to get my bike completed. I had been thinking of a different design and engine for the Leader and called it originally a Leader plus. I did the engine first but Eddies interpretation of the MK...

Re: Crank half bolt

Hello David,

The workshop manual gives a figure of 60 ft/lbs. If the flywheels do not line up to the .001 run out, try tightening them up in stages truing them at each stage.

Re: MK 2 Ariel Leader

Thanks Keith,

The catalogue had no information about what bike it was from. I'll note this down for future ref.

Re: MK 2 Ariel Leader

Hi Mark, The 110 m/m rod was obtained from Grampion Motors in Liverpool ; Ron Philips of Fahron Engineering got hold of them and did all the assembly work. Looking at the catalogue, they are down as TS 185 , which could be from a Honda. The longer rod makes a small difference in the relationship bet...

Here are some more recent pictures of the MK 2 Leader. I've done just over 60 miles so far and the bike is running well. There are still a few things to do, side panels, chaincase, screen and permanent indicators + quite a few smaller items.

Re: Crank thrust washers

Evening,

I've just checked the only built up crank assembly I can find and the triangular washers are fixed but the con-rod still has a little side ways clearance.
I'll let others answer as well so you get an answer based on other crank assemblies not just one.

Re: V5 needed

Hi,

If you have the old log book then it should be possible to start the process by getting a V5 and then applying for it to be ''taxed'' when it is ready and MOT'd.

Re: V5 needed

hI, I've put a Leader back on the road , which had a V5 which was obtained a few years ago, after an inspection by the Local DVLA office before they closed. The hardest part was getting it insured because it had a slightly larger engine capacity and a different fairing. The local Post office were ve...
