Re: A question on ignition timing methods

Re the timing on the engine. When the Standard Leader had points ignition the bike ran well and started well after spending time getting the timing exactly as the workshop manual recommended. On the 270 Leader with Pazon I set the timing as per the instructions to get the engine going and then using...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hello John,, To answer your question from the first message. The compression pressure is normally well over 100 psi for the Leader/Arrow engine and after a rebore it will be less until the rings bed in properly. Is the fuel getting through to the carb, the reason I ask is because I've just repaired ...

Re: 1962 Arrow Starting Problems

Hello John, I've just checked an engine casting and there is a hole which collects oil from the near-side cylinder ( at the bottom of the transfer port ) and comes out into the spaced between the centre bearing and double oil seal. The drilled hole does just break into the centre bearing recess but ...

Re: Arrow Front Brake

Hi Roger, There are others who offer brake lining - Villiers Services in the West Midlands and Friction Services in the Bristol area. I bought some relined shoes from Keith Harding at the Stafford Show a couple of weeks ago, I think he still has some left. Most of my brakes have had standard thickne...

Re: Arrow Front Brake

Hello Roger, The brakes are nominally 6'' diameter and if they have not been skimmed will be within normal machining tolerances of that measurement. I've have most of my brakes done/relined by Classic Brake Services of Whalley Bridge, using rivets to secure the linings. The linings are black with an...

Re: arrow wiring

Hello Bob, Just to eliminate one area -- are the alternator wires connected correctly to the rectifier , some alternators have had the wires changed over the years and the wrong colours used. It is possible to check the resistances of the alternator coils to find if any are not working or shorting ,...

Re: REVCOUNTER FOR ARROW SS

Hello Terry, I have rev counters on three of my bikes but only the 270 Leader has the rev counter with a Pazon ignition on 12 volts and negative earth. I used a rev counter from Digital Speedos it also has a temperature gauge and can accommodate the two sparks per rev of the electronic ignition syst...

Re: Leader no spark

Hi, If the bike is still as standard and has positive earth--- disconnect the supply wire - ve , usually white ,from the coil/contact breaker you need to test ( I use a mirror to find the correct wire/contact on the coil ) make sure it does not touch the frame by wrapping some tape around it and con...
