Re: French Parrot

There are some very interesting bikes there and some beautiful examples of those familiar to us Brits.

Interesting to see the new BMW R18 in the flesh - an 1,800cc boxer cruiser motor that is appearing in all sorts of weird 'cruiser' configurations (if you read the Bike Press).

....and always use a new one one,not NOS. Yes . . . But . . I restored a Series III Landrover with the 2286cc petrol engine. I renewed everything but it wouldn't run. I took the new condenser out and put the old one back in - Bingo ! Beware pattern parts badged as Lucas ;) . Sometimes it pays to ha...

Re: Sidevalve Valve Collets

A bit of grease on the collets can sometimes help. I recall putting the valves back in a friend's Ford van - with the 100E motor. Bloomin' thing, lying over the motor with my head near the steering rack, working upside down against gravity . . . . . It was a long time ago and I was a great de...

Gearbox Sprocket Nut

I received an unsolicited e-mail from SRM Classic Bikes - plugging their new sprocket nut that incorporates an oil seal. It is intended for BSAs but I thought it might be of interest here. Here's the link in case anyone is interested. http://shop.srmclassicbikes.com/product/gearbox-sprocket-nut-oil-...

Re: bikeshow Reading 1956

And just to the left, and below the 'Stoker' banner is what appears to be an Italian 'Capri' scooter. I started my two-wheeled career on a Capri 80 of 1950s vintage. It had a little Garelli two stroke motor with an integral three-speed gearbox and chain drive to the rear wheel which was in a convent...

Re: SQ4 Sidestand

I've never seen a 'Green Lane' with tarmac & white lines before   .

Its a different world over there - some fantastic vehicles (not just bikes).

A Square Four with a Field Stand ?? Probably a lot better than the nasty little side (prop) stand I had on my '53 model.

Re: Flexible petrol pipe

or plain black rubber pipe. I went to buy black petrol pipe at a stall at the 'Bristol Classic Show' and was warned only to use "Ethanol Resistant" stuff. A while later my 'Airhead' BMW sprung leaks all over its fuel pipework and I had to replace it all. Be sure you know what you're buyin...
