Re:

Have you tried 'British Only Austria' ??

The ad' doesn't say what the compression ratio is - but it might be worth an e-mail ??

(Unless you know from the Part Numbers).

Re: Welding Old Alloy

What is your address Bob? I am sending over a box of bits for machining. Wade I wouldn't  . . . This afternoon I was cutting 26tpi threads on long studs and managed to snap my 55deg threading tool - classic case of trying to cut too deep on the third pass. I don't claim to be any sort o...

Re:

There was a torch called a Dillon which does good welds and may be something like what you propose. Nev I don't have much information on the 'Lumiweld' product. The kit was only £28 so I thought it worth a look. I don't know what heat source is used. I have Butane and Propane torches and can lay my...

Re: Re:

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered a 'Lumiweld kit' - 20-rod version (a guy just can't get too much practice  ).

I'll let you all know how it works ;) .

Re:

You are running the bike on the propstand. When I did that with my '57 VB it would wet sump and pour oil out of the engine breather. It really has to be upright for it to be a proper test. However, if it behaves like that when its being ridden then - as stated - check the oil return and the pick-up ...

Re:

It is very nice and total restorations don't come cheap . . but . . that's a helluva price.

Mind you, an American BMW Dealer just built a brand new 1976 R90S (drool) from new parts.

It took three days and cost around $46,000

Sign of the times.

Re:

That sounds interesting Barry, I'll look into that.

Do you have plans to use it in the near future - it will be interesting to hear how well it works ???

Well.... Now I am having doubts again about getting the Mag reconditioned... Where there's life there's hope ;) . Ride it an see how it goes, but for full peace of mind get the Mag reconditioned at a time that suits. Once everything has been "Base-lined" it should just need regular mainte...

I do like 'Cammy Squares' .

Its a few years since I last visited the Museum - 2006 I think, I was on a BMW K1200GT. I must go back sometime.

Re:

Put a brand new plug in before you go for the serious stuff. First ride out on my 'new' VH and it died after 1.5 miles - nothing would persuade it to run. Pushed it to a garage then walked home and got the car and trailer. Put a new plug in and its been fine since (I had cleaned the old one a few ti...
