Had a job trying to remove from old cam, there is no way I could find of pulling unit off cam ,no thread in centre hole for large bolt to use as extractor, so had to tap ...

Re: Is the Ariel Colt that rare ?

Well I have just bought one as a basket case which will not be recorded, this is why my interest in them. Using Paul's restoration blog on this forum as a great reference source. Is the Ariel Colt that rare ?

I have just read an article which was published in The Classic Motor Cycle mag around 2002 which says that about 10,000 Colts were built between 1954 to 1958 with only about 60 of them known to have survived. Is there only around 60 left or is there a lot more out there ? There always seems to be on...

Ariel Colt advance/ retard unit needed

Bought a 1957 Ariel Colt basket case which the previous owner had dismantled the engine and it looks like he had tried to remove the timing advance / retard unit with a hammer . There is a few bits of the unit left , the two weights, springs, one circlip and cam. Has anyone got a spare unit ...

Re: VH misting from carb

Thanks for replies. I will check timing with time disc. I have looked in book for timing and its says inlet valve opens at 26 degrees before top dead centre and closes at 77 degrees after bottom dead centre but this means that the valve is not closed until piston is nearly half way up on the compres...

VH misting from carb

Finally got my 1949 VH running after 3 years rebuilding it, but I seem to be having a problem with petrol mist coming out of carb and wetting oil tank. I fitted a later one lobe cam, carb is standard with correct jets. Bike starts and seems to run ok apart from misting from carb, is this usual or do...
