Re: Happy 2021 !

May I thank you all in the UK and around the world for your contributions to this site and also thank those who make it function? Here, in the foothills of the Hampshire Highlands its a bit of an Ariel desert and I've depended on this site for advice and ideas, especially this year when hopes of vis...

Re: VB tappets

Thank you Vincent, I'll pursue that link.
But is there anyone in the UK with one on the bench that I could come and measure?

VB tappets

If you have December 2020's "Cheval de Fer" you'll see that there's a plea in the "Wanted" section from Tony Regan for accurate dimensions of the VB tappets even a worn out pattern so copies might be made. Can anyone help? (Alas, I assembled my own VB with my less than perfect ta...

Re: A corner for VBs (and other sidevalves)

Today I tried tightening the setscrews in various patterns and at various tiny rates while rotating the engine in the hope that all would settle satisfactory, but each time at the final tightening the tappets stuck and the valves were kept off their seats. The tappets remained stuck (i.e. could not ...

Re: A corner for VBs (and other sidevalves)

Hmmm,
Thanks for the advice Paul. The components all came out of the engine some years ago and the magneto plate bolt is loose. (I'll take more care about that.) I'm wondering about distortion too. I'll try doing up the setscrews in a different order.
Thanks again, MikeN.

Re: A corner for VBs (and other sidevalves)

On the camshaft, yes Dave, some 5-10 thou. I fear there's none on the cam follower pivot pin - but no idea why! If I'm right how could that happen?

Re: A corner for VBs (and other sidevalves)

CLEARANCES IN A VB CAM CHAMBER Dear friends, I’d like your advice on a clearance problem in the cam chamber of my VB. If I firmly secure the 5 set screws of the cover that goes over the cam and its followers something jams and holds the tappets up and the valves off their seats when I rotate the eng...

Magnetic drainplugs -for free!

I'm changing my drainplugs which I've had for some 40 years in my '56 VB. The original plugs have "Eclipse" ferrite rod magnets that I'd Araldited into holes drilled in the plugs. I'm going over the far more powerful neodymium type and so have the plugs fitted with the ferrite rods to give...
