I find a bit of 1/8" brazing rod with two saw cuts on does the biz. It also fits in the toolbox. These old clangers are not to fussy and with modern unleaded fuels always retard a bit as well as the burn is different to the leaded stuff back in the day. I set my big late 50's VH 550cc about 7/1...

Most mags Lucas and BT-H are 3/8 BSF. This applies to platform and flange types.
Some mags like the PAL used on some speedway bikes are smaller M10 fine threads.
