No field stand lug or remains visible, pics are -deliberately?- unclear , but it looks like some grinding has taken place around the fieldstandlug area.
Frontbrakeplate looks like from a 16H

It could be a 1939 civilian Ariel.

Looking at this myself would appreciate some advice. I’ve just got myself a Nh/Vh engine as the start of a project and was looking at this as a possible frame. I’m new to Ariel, had a 350 RH back in the early 80s for a while but always fancied a rigid big single with girder front end. As the engine I’ve got isn’t concours I thought this frame may be ok for a non standard build. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Martin

I think it's civilian. The forks are for a big axle and look to be the short ones and the frame is not bent down just behind the seat area as the W/NG is. Clamped handlebars are the best. (Far preferable to the rubber mounted ones). They came later than 39 and the 41 war bikes still used rubber mounts. Nev

If this is a civilian frame of 'normal' dimensions - if not to many are reading this- you could find yourself with the best frame to fit a 500 engine in.
Fitting a 500 in a W/NG frame (like I did) can be done but it leaves very, very little room between the horizontal top tube and the rocker boxes.
If I would need to take the rockerboxes off I will have to take the engine out of the frame .....
No, dont worry, I wont bid!

Thanks for that. I’ve read about the clearance issues. It would suit my project but I lack the knowledge to know it’s value. Although I suppose that is relative. I see what the bids are like and then decide. Unless of course anyone on the forum has a frame they wish to move on.

Thanks Andy I’ll keep an eye on that one. Would there be any potential problems in getting a V5 for the parts bike or is usually straight forward.

I do prefer the idea of bringing a collection of parts back into a bike. Takes the pressure off maintaining originality. I’m really after a 30’s style rideable bike.
