Postby Paul_Linden » Thu Jun 04, 2020 10:04 pm

This nice looking VH is up for auction, nothing to do with me. Estimate seems a bit high?

HI That is a bit high for it and time you ad vat and buyers fee on and the time they have run the price up to you will be paying double than what its worth :!:

Yes it's a bit expensive with all the fees and VAT.

If it was fully 'sorted' and you had the cash you'd have a candidate for a new toy, pre-war VH Ariels are very sought after.

But... it looks like it's barely been run and could be made up of auto jumble parts so you the new owner may not have a trouble free ride.

How do you see that it has barely been run and made of autojumble parts?
I am trying to learn as I am searching for a pre-war NG.

There is a chronometric speedo in the tank panel which did not appear until postwar. The frosted glass on the headlamp suggests it is one of the (excellent) Czech replicas - but they don't have the correct glass. Rear brake plate is postwar. New rims have been fitted to the brakeplates but not painted correctly so the whole bike looks awful (see rant elsewhere).

YES,YES, YES !! my favoured pet is wieder da, I love that horn bracket !
(bracket is wrong way up, the very first pothole you negotiate will have the horn turning to the front, knocking a dent in the guard.)
Front brake lever does needs some attention before you join in with the 4 wheel ceramic disc brakes posse.
Isnt that a earlier prim chaincase for a open rocker model ?
I think it has a Indian repro tank, top of the tank has the more curved postwar line and the 'indents' for the tank badges are not there and the ones fitted do not line up horizontally.
lashed on electronic regulator under that very repro looking seat.

Yep, it's a Bitsa !

wrong kickstart lever. they were straight not curved like ones for later transmissions (post 1952). Seat mounting wrong fittings. Wrong gas supply line. Whomever bought it likely doesn't know the difference or cares.

I don't mind the higher prices, it shows these pre-war bikes are appreciated even if they aren't perfect. I would say that I suppose since I have one and mine is much more original.
