I'd be interested to know if it really is an Ariel bicycle, and what features identify it as such.

Just had an email from Jerry...

Not convinced this is an Ariel. The chainwheel is not the Ariel ‘A’ type as that had five ’A’s and this has six and they are not really ‘A’s. No biflex tubing. Ariel did use coaster brakes but they were Crabbe types and Ariel always put a front brake on in addition.

Don’t think Ariel used round pedal cranks.

Also think it's not an Ariel, sprocket is universal "transport", rearhub BSA?, the steering lock will give the make away.

I Think it's a WW2 machine.
