Its a genuine VF31 with matching numbers but it left the factory in Nov 1930 so I think that classes it as Vintage. Some work needed to get it back to Concours though, as you might expect.

Don't come up too often.. built in 1930 "verified" makes it eligible as Vintage under most rules. OHV 500 goes well. Headlight guards and the magdyno should be a monobloc that year. Levers not correct. All fixable but … takes time and money..Nev

Nev, you say the mag should be monobloc ? It is a 31 and it appears to have the correct style of mag/generator.
31 was also the year Norton went to this style of mag/gen same as Ariel.
The only monobloc one I have seen was for an Ajs of about 29/30

They must have been one of the first then. The change over was close to that date. I have had several 1930 monoblocks. The date of manufacture is on the magneto body on the side of the base and on the tag near the drive gear. on the later ones. That one has the pressed alloy cover with Lucas Badge and the early generator with 3 screws. It's early, but if the bike was made in 1930, It's surprising to have that. Perhaps someone will know the change over more accurately . It likely varied on supply and what was in stock but that can only delay it, not move it early. Period bike magazine ads MAY show a Lucas advert for Earl's Court announcing IMPROVED features for their product line. I have always thought it was later than 1931.
PS I have just managed to dig up an image of the original catalogue with shows the Mag dyno same as that bike has . So there you go. After a bit of searching I now know. Wouldn't be a bad bike to own. Nev
