Those with a long memory may remember me - I was a very active member in the late '60s / early 70s when I had a 'special' 4G and a VB.
I don't have an Ariel at the moment (two BMWs and a heap of Tiger Cub parts
) but I'm attempting to renovate a Sturmey Archer gearbox from a 1931 P&M Panther M50 that a friend came across in a barn in the Isle of Skye (it still cost him a fair packet to acquire it though
I'm told that some early Ariels had Sturmey Archer gearboxes so maybe someone has the following:
The box is a pre-'31 Type 'LS240' 3-speed hand change with the single spring clutch, no shock absorber in the clutch and a loose ball race on the output shaft drive side. The serial No. is 'PM3560'.
I'm needing an output shaft 2nd gear pinion - 20 tooth. Part No. LS403. The one I have has lost a tooth
I'm also needing a kickstart lever return spring - Part No. BS26D.
I'll need circular clutch corks too - 5/8" and 1/2" diameter - but I can probably make those out of wine corks (pity I'm TT
I've also got a broken kickstart sleeve - Part No. LS262, but I'm intending to turn-up a replacement on my lathe once I've extracted what's left of the old one and know what the thread should be.
Any help gratefully received.
I'm now going to get the 'Ariel Bug' again, aren't I
(I used to live near Taunton, Somerset but I've been in the Edinburgh area for the past 40 years).
