Wanted: White & Poppe Crankcases

Postby john.deeth » Mon Sep 19, 2011 12:24 pm

Hello Arielists,

Can anyone help me please?

Following a recent big end failure and it's resulting damage, I am looking for a timing side Whitte & Poppe crankcase half please.

I am happy to purchase a pair of cases, complete bottom end or engine if available.

Any assistance would be gratefully accepted.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

John.

Hi John, while I hope someone can help you with the real thing, I've seen Dave Dyson making new cases for a vintage bike. He lives in Swan Reach, middle of nowhere, SA.

John - W&P parts aren't thick on the ground in the UK. If I was in that position I'd get someone to make me a set. Theres a chap called Bob Rodgerson who hangs out on the Real Classics forum (known as Humbernut) - he could make a set for you I'm sure.

Hi Brenton and Tony,
Thank you both for your contacts.
I will live in hope for the moment that someone has some under their bench somewhere!

Hi John ,I have a very sad 1922 timing side case,it is compete but badly corroded around the timing case it will need repair. They are not the easiest things to weld because of the consistancy of the alloy ,they tend to crack when heated. If this is any good to you, you are welcome to it.

The thing to do is; sandblast it and fill with "Devcon" aluminium puty, you wont see the differends for at least 10 years.

Even a exhaust stub or fin will stay alive, they also have cast iron puty.
