350 NH clutch cover required - 1936

Postby chrisf » Sat Jun 06, 2015 8:57 am

Hi, my engine is actually 1940 but I think the clutch covers remained pretty much unchanged? The one fitted to my bike was bashed in so that trials footpegs and a shorter brake pedal could be fitted. I've now put the right pegs on and bashed the lumps out of the cover. The shape is pretty good but it has some rust and will never be good enough (with my panel beating skills anyway) to have re-chromed so if anyone has a decent one I'd be glad to hear from them please.

Assuming you have the correct chaincases for 1936, with the round cush drive cover rather than the pear shaped one, you will find that the clutch cover you need is one for a Square Four, 1937 onwards, but fitted upside-down! Sadly, this means you need to weld up the hole which will be at the top, and drill another at the bottom. This wrecks the chrome, so what you really need is a useable Sq 4 cover which needs re-plating anyway.

Thanks Paul, I'll add a photo later in the week but that broadens my search options... I don't mind having it re-plated but the one that is on has been bent and I don't think it would be a good enough surface finish to re-chrome it... maybe I need to look at putting it into the hands of a professional panel beater and see what they can do
Thanks again

I found this link, not cheap (what is?) but a source for anyone else who needs a clutch cover...

it would cost a lot more than John's price to have the cover restored!
