Clutch centre for sale

Postby Paul_Linden » Sun Oct 08, 2017 1:09 pm

New, unused clutch centre for sale. I think it is a two plate Burman type, possibly 3355-36.
I’m asking £40, which will include post and packing, but will only send to a U.K. address.
PM me if interested or for more details.
Dimensions in inches as follows:
Outside diameter 4 7/16
Internal diam. 4 1/16
Internal depth just under 3/8
Total depth 1 3/16
8 internal splines
20 external splines
Boss and tabs
It is the five stud type, but comes without the studs.

This is still for sale. Actually I think it is a 3355-48. Can post abroad if buyer pays postage.

Just a comment on these. There are ones with more plates and some with longer splines on the later models. They are all made of cast iron originally. If you have them remanufactured consider making them of steel and hardening them as well. Failures of the splines where the fix to the mainshaft and wear of the slots will be reduced and you could reduce some of the weight as well by machining it thinner where possible. The lighter the centre parts of the clutch, the better the gears change.
Don't expect the cost to be low unless a large batch is ordered. A new one of these is the first step to smooth (and quieter) clutch operation. Nev

What I cant figure out is why Burman didnt simply turn a ledge around the back and use the same headed studs as the Matchless CP centre.........Or why nobody does that now..seems like a nobrianer to me.

Having to pull the mainshaft out to replace the sprocket or seal is ridiculous. It only misses out by about one MM of diameter. Perhaps the larger (Length wise) centre bearing is better. The have more length there because of the alloy inner case thickness I hate TIN chaincases like the AJS / Matchless. Nev

They did - I've only got 3 or 4 original centres but they've all got headed studs...
