I have a couple of these heads but not sure of year or if 500 or 350. Looking at the diameter they are probably 500 but it is odd that I have rockers for a 350. That aside, the picture is interesting with the mod (I assume) for the guide lubrication I wonder/do you know if it worked OK? Graeme

The oil feed to both the valves was, I believe, standard ,my father has run a thirty five 350 R H for about 30 years with very few problems.

The casting is the same for the twin feed and the inlet only feed - I have one of each which I am juggling for my '37 500

It would appear that one could easily drill and tap out for the twin feed if you wanted in a 'later' head?

There is a discussion elsewhere on open valve heads which suggests to me that Ariel were trying both options 35-37.

The earlier '34 head does not have the bosses for the twin hole feed.

Hope this helps?

Thanks Mark,

Making holes for the inlet and exhaust lub could weaken or craxk.the surrounding area as per one of my chats in the past with people who have tried it.

Secondly the later head e.g.1936 which had the lub for only the inlet cause, looks like a tough job to eliminate the original inlet oil feed preparation..

Would have thought the rockers are the same for 350 and 500. Engine rocker plates should be different to accommodate the closer valves.
Unless bossed, drilling oil holes generally causes a crack to happen if the guides are at all tight in the head, Having both oil pipes communicating doesn't work. The exhaust has positive pressure and the inlet sucks so heat and soot go across to the inlet. Ariel no doubt found this out. If you use separate nipples it's OK to grease them both. I've done it a few times with good results. A really small amount of high temp often is the go. Otherwise your engine is quite messy. Nev
