A chap called Simon Holyfield has a front mudguard suitable for a 1958 Huntmaster. The BSA version is much more robust due to its front stays. The Ariel one flaps in the breeze and disintegrates. Normally, this occurs between the fork legs so this bit gets strengthened when it is repaired and then the area around the front stand bolt goes. Literally. Cyclone mudguards are an alternative, as is the previous version of the Ariel front mudguard.
In the 1970s I had BSA front mudguards on both of my first 2 Ariels which were 1957 NH models. When I needed to reach something in the garage loft I used to stand on the front mudguard as a convenient step. I might have weighed less in those days but I don't think too many Ariel late mudguards would take that treatment.
