Postby chris.matthews » Mon Sep 02, 2019 4:10 am

Wanted For 1948 4G All iron
Grease Dashpot 464261 - it lubes the distributor drive shaft, there is a nice drawing on Draganfly Website.
Hopefully someone has one, delivery would be to my daughter in London - she will mastermind getting it to me.

Neither 'grease dashpot' nor '464261 ' leads to something on Drags website.
Would be handy for you if you include a link to it or a picture of it ?

Hi Vincent, Here is a photo of the dashpot on my Sq4. Put "dashpot" in the search box at the top of this page for more info.

Best regards
Chris

Thats a commercial greaser.....called a Stauffer ,by some........Ive probably got some on a machine somewhere.....can someone quote the thread size.....likely 1/8bsp......Whats the brand of that one....Tecalamit?......Indians have a similar fitting on the dizzy made by Gits Bros.,and lots of English stuff used Gits Bros fittings ,too.....PS ..its got nothing to do with a dashpot, which is an oil filled dampener.

I sourced a dashpot on ebay that will do the job; close in appearance & size to original; will get around to machining down thread to suit the original end plate.

Hello Folks
Let me remind this Greaser has two functions.
The lube duty - lack of greaser is easily overcome with a grease nipple (as on my 4G).
BUT the proper bit of kit locates the Distributor Drive and stops it moving up & down.
I made a stop like the retainer for the speedo cable at the gearbox.

Simply doing the thread will not achieve the Stopper Function.

It's a lot smaller than 1/8 BSP. I bought these a few weeks ago on eBay and they're far too big.

Does anyone have an original dashpot, and would be able to provide a sketch?

Thanks,

Richard

Hello
I don't have a drawing (or a greaser) but Draganfly Drawing of MN1E magneto 'almost' shows the extended part that engages with the distributor shaft.
Who supplied the greaser ?
Best regards
Chris
