Has it got a rubber tip on it ? I have heard of the rubber swelling and sticking. I think you can get a Viton tipped needle that ( hopefully ) cures this.

Hi John. Yes ,got the 2nd message. We will have to meet up and have a natter some time. I will be at Curborough sprint (Fradley) the weekend of the 6th (saturday). If you go ,look for a silver Honda V4 400, number 566. Burlen should have the needles.Just checked. They have a float and needle kit ,£19. Just put Burlen into google.

I always throw those nylon needles away as far as possible. The brass ones with the Viton tips work much better.

Available direct from Amal or (my favourite) Hitchcocks.

Hi John
Are you sure it is the needle that,s sticking as I had the opposite happen, turning on the fuel the float chamber flooded only to find the shaft that the float moves on had a black line on it and cleaning the shaft the float moved freely and no more flooding. Just a thought.

Another point - it's easy to mislay the little spacer that goes on the float spindle after the float is fitted. This lets the float bind on the cover.

I also once had a problem with a Triumph unit twin where the mould line on the float was catching on the casing. Probably a defective pattern part, but a few strokes of a file sorted it out.
