Post a pic of the motor..there are quite a few unstamped cases around , the barrel might be an Ariel one or alternatively there are aftermarket suppliers of alloy barrels for the trials mob. Do you plan to keep it as a single ? 500 alloy engines sell easily if you plan to go back to original

Later type alloy barrel, (HS/HT not VHA/VCH). Head looks like it might have the '56-on push-in exhaust pipe but the timing cover is the 1955 and earlier style with the 'rounded' ear for the top/rear screw for the mag chain cover.
No lights and competition mag?
Also some funny stuff going on with the (incorrect) brake pedal - and I wouldn't trust that gear pedal to stay on very long!
Can't see any blueing on the exhaust, it's very clean and there's a few things to do before it'll run - makes me wonder if this has ever run as a single?
If it's a recent project the previous owner might still have some of the FH parts (it would need mag/dyno/engine plates/chaincase inner and various bolts and studs, plus the engine shaft shock absorber, as well as the engine cases - A10 cases don't fit I'm told...)
Dave - any gearbox numbers or perhaps the engine number that's on the drive-side case between the front engine plates?

(That's a very interesting bike you've got there as well as very shiny!)

hi simon and steve
this was a project that was started and not finished thanks for the info which will come in handy
everything is still in build up stage as there are a few jobs left to do, so many parts are on the bike to make sure they don't get lost
no numbers on the engine anywhere, gearbox has GB6B55 and M236
thanks steve for your offer but I think at the moment I would love to see what the bike will be like with this engine in it

According to Drag's 'Ariel VIN' doc (https://www.draganfly.co.uk/data/pdf/ariel_vin.pdf) GB6 box was't used on an FH.
B55 makes it a Feb '55 box (if I remember rightly), which could have come from a 500 single.
I wonder if it's got the early FH only 42-tooth clutch sprocket instead of the standard (just about everything else) 44-tooth. If it has keep an eye on the primary gearing....
