Model A advance retard

I'm now the proud owner of a 1929 Model A (to go with my 1950 NH)
Quick question (I hope!) before I try and start it up
Which way to advance? (slack or tight?)

Should be tight, look at the mag, points end. cable should be at rear of mag.

Does it have a Lucas magneto? Mine has a BTH.

Thanks All - Yes it is that one Simon, although I found it on Car and Classic - I couldn't resist. (Yes, Lucas mag)
It seems pretty complete - It could do with a centre stand and an appropriate horn (the wiring is there). Even has the original option of an inflatable pillion pad - (although no longer inflatable!)
Definitely not restoring this one. I have had it running, but it does need some fettling - notably clutch not disengaging properly and carb needs cleaning and rebuilding.
I'm sure I'll be a regular on the forum again asking daft questions - especially of those infinitely more experienced and expert than me, like Simon and Dave (Dave's book arrived today)
While I'm here, it has a 276CX/1A Amal carb - would this be original and any recommendations on jet sizes...?

hi a very nice Ariel and a nice dip switch but i think the engine looks like it is running to retarded because the exhaust is very blue
