Ariel back wheel

Postby Ted.letts » Sat Jun 29, 2013 8:52 am

Hi, can anybody help me identify a back wheel that came with a 1931 MH 350 basket case.

The hub is made by Qualcast and has XR 30 stamped inside the brake drum.

With that size spindle, I would suggest it came off a plunger Ariel.

The wheel is not from an Ariel, too few bolts and wrong type of casting number. I don't know what it is from though. Qualcast, who were manufacturers of lawn mowers had a large foundry in Derby and undertook sub-contract work for many companies including Ariel. When I worked at Royces, I was told, that engine testing couldn't be done when the wind was in the wrong direction because of the s**t from the Qualcast foundry just up the road.
