Hi Ernie,
The 5852 was used on VH/VG and VB machines, the 5850 on NH/NG machines. Either will fit save that the smaller 5850 does not have the strap that can clearly be seen on John's photo. The tank on my VH is the same as John's.

Could you send a photo of your tank? Perhaps someone can identify it.

mine looks like the 5852. there is one small hole at the top of the tank to the left of the filler cap about the size of a 2 ba bolt.
I have sent some pictures to John and he will try to publish them for me.
what seems to be the problem is the bottom fixing,

Regards Ernie Moore

from the engine plate section. Part 0299 ??

Your tank looks like mine.
I don't understand why it's missing the two threaded holes for the U-clamp though.....
I am sorry but I only have a fairly lightweight anorak .....

Hi Ernie, yes, it is a stud on the engine plate (as John suggests). Yours must be broken. The tank fixes in the two places shown in John's photo's and via the strap across the frame on the top left. I've seen the strap cut and one fixing hole used. There will be two threaded holes in the top of your tank, but these may have been filled. You may have to fish around a bit to find them.
regards, Brenton

Up to '52 lower tab goes on a stud in the engine plate (as described in previous posts) '52 on (rigid/plunger) the tank tab goes on the top gearbox mounting stud, but the engine plate still has a hole in the exact same place for the earlier oil tank stud. (Later plate can be converted by brazing a piece of stud in the hole if necessary - there's no clearance for a bolt). Dunno if that's useful!

Gents,
On a different subject, which is this document that you are both refernecing (John and Ernie)?

I have the parts book from Drags and also the 1951 parts buck off of the Club document repository and have not seen drawing of these parts with numbers. where can I get a copy?

Thanks,

keith

I'm cheating a bit.
I knew that the earlier parts books had drawings, so I pulled up one slightly earlier as many parts should be the same.
I think this one is the 1947 singles.

It's also useful to do that, when you need casting numbers (as they sometimes don't appear on later lists).

By the way Keith, if you are an AMOCC member (as you must be to get member's access to these documents, right?) then mail me your membership number (as you could be another keith owen pretending to be the real keith owen) an I'll give you additional AOMCC rights on this forum and turn your name red.

Hi!
Could I enquire as to where this rather magnificent drawing that is being 'bandied about' between Ernie and John came from?

I have the Drags parts book and also a 1951 singles parts book that I got off of the club document repository but neither is as comprehensive as to include part numbers for tanks etc.

I'd really appreciate a copy!!
