Dynamo question, ‘39 NH

Postby Phil B » Sat May 19, 2018 6:27 pm

Good evening folks.
I rewired my ‘39 NH, all good but no charge , and no power out of the dynamo (tested with a bulb).
Ok, strip end off dyno, obvious fault, a loose wire and poor connections everywhere. Mucky comm but good brushes and springs.

The question is hopefully obvious from the pic, does the spare wire go on the brush housing (effectively to earth) being indicated with the screwdriver?

As always, I’m grateful for your input.

Phil

The second brush should be connected to the dynamo body (earth) - see picture.

I've still got that gear selector spring box on my desk, Phil. Did you ever get around to looking at that?
cheers

I’m working through the issues one at a time Simon. Thanks for remembering!

This w/e is dyno/charging jobs, last w/e was clutch and mech, before that was electrics. Fun but seemingly endless, and so annoying that I have limited time (and energy!).

But yes, I believe that the selector pawl box is my issue as I retimed mine to no avail.

Is it available still?

Dont forget to clean out or undercut the slots in the commutator.....the brush dust buildup will be conductive.
