High Western Handlebars

Postby graylee » Tue Mar 05, 2019 11:19 am

Hi Everyone,
I'm fairly new to the forum. Been lurking for a while but thought I would introduce myself.

I have been lucky enough to purchase a Cyclone from the US but it has the standard Huntmaster handlebars on it.

For historical accuracy I would like to change these to the correct High Western Handlebars. The previous owner removed the high ones as he preferred the lower bars. Unfortunately he sold them on so was unable to supply them with the bike.

I have been in touch with Draganfly but unfortunately they are on back order (not a huge demand!) also, the last time I called, their handlebar bending machine was broken so not sure how long it might be before they get around to these particular bars.

I did ask if they were willing to let me have the exact specification so that perhaps I could have another handlebar maker make me a set. They are apparently top secret though, and unwilling to do so. Which seems a bit harsh since I was more than happy to buy from them, but they were unable to supply.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone either had a set of these bars I could purchase. Any condition is fine as I could either have them re-chromed, or use as a pattern to get a new set. Or failing that perhaps has the specifications needed to have a set made?

Also, I am not sure but would these handlebars have been used on any other models, as is common with Ariel parts?

The part number is 6402-58 if that helps.

Many thanks in advance for any help.
Regards

I have a couple of pics. It's currently still across the pond, at my daughter's house in Wisconsin. I'm waiting for their weather to improve before the long haul to the UK.

I think you will find that the Draganfly pipe bender is now back in working order.

Hi, Vincent and Bob,
Thank you for these.

Unfortunately I have no way of knowing if they would be the same or not? Would the Red Hunter handlebars have been the same spec? I really don't know. Do they call them High Western Bars?

As for the Hitchcock ones. They look about right but without the original dimensions I would be guessing. But thanks again for your suggestions.

I am hoping someone can either come up with a set, whatever condition, or the specifications so I can compare them.

Lee
I know this does not really answer your question regarding an original set of Cyclone bars but......taking into account that by 1958 BSA had an input in Ariel production maybe the 'Western handlebars used on the exported BSA models were also used for the Cyclone?

Here is a link to BSA Western Bars on Ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261449096478. may give you an alternative if all else fails.
The link gives the relevant dimensions so if someone comes up with the dimensions for the Cyclone bars at least you can see if they match

Cheers
