Hi folks,
This is a picture of my wife's late father on his bike - can anyone identify the model and year ?
Cheers, Bevan

Hi Bevan, I think it is a 1928 Model D or E
This is a 500cc single. A lovely bike. Very sought after these days.

Thanks Brenton,
A small correction, she's just informed me it was not her Dad; but interesting nevertheless.

No problems. It's a good photo. I'm looking at it on my phone so missing a bit of detail - but he looks loaded up.
These are great bikes.
Do you know where the photo was taken?

No I'm afraid I don't, and I don't know how my better half has a copy of that photo.
Cheers, Bevan

Here's another go - this definitely is her Dad. Photo is cropped and not great, but would be interested in any suggestions. Cheers, Bevan
p.s. Just had a close look at the two images - clearly in the same place. This suggests two possibilities :
1/ the first one is of his mate sitting on her Dads bike or;
2/ they had.identical bikes.

Hi Bevan,
I see you are in NZ. Yes, agreed, Model D. I know there's a 28 Model E there that was with Peter Wright, I think an AOMCC member.
You show up as a member, so here's a link to the 1928 factory brochure. User name and password are inside the cover of the Cheval magazine. The artwork and detail is excellent. We're lucky to have these. http://www.arielownersmcc.co.uk/members ... /index.htm
It looks like the same bike to me. Even a bracket to stop the panniers from fouling the wheel.
The electric lights would have been an extra.

Great looking pictures. Just a thought but in the 2nd pic the bike looks almost new and the rider young. In the 1st pic the bike looks more used, could it be that the 2nd was pre-war and the 1st was post war recreating the earlier shot? The rider look gaunt and may have recently returned.

Interesting thought. My wife is adamant that the second bloke is her Dad, but the 1st one is not - he does look taller and a different build. But it is peculiar that she has both photos in her Dads album.
