Kh twin rebuild

Postby Leejm » Sun Sep 29, 2019 2:20 pm

As many will know I got myself a 51 kh, well when I brought the thing it was nonthing more than a frame, forks and mudguards. That was it! Not much of a bike I know. I've mainly been collecting parts i now almost have a complete bike. So now the work can start, engine stripped cleaned and polished its now waiting for it to go back together. Started on all the welding the front engine plates needed a lot of work but they are now done and the engine fits. Tool box done next job is the attack the mudguards. This will be a long build life is still very busy and it's not going to change anytime soon. So don't expect it all to be done in 18 months flat like normal.

Looking very smart Lee, when you come to fitting the timing chain and sprockets I followed the attached method which I found much easier than the one prescribed.

Cheers John. I did notice that the camshaft sprockets had two timing marks I had no idea why this was!

Things have been busy here. Been collecting parts manily. Some progress anyway. Made my own rear stand. Repaired the tool box made a new bottom bracket and made the top frame clip. Repaired engine and gearbox plates. Converted a pre 51 battery carrier to a post 51 carrier. Converted A late bottom yoke with steering lock to earlier one without. Tomorrow make a frame clip for the oil tank.
Gearbox fully rebuild and waiting to go in. Engine part done.

Progress, battery carrier modded from a earlier one.
Lower chain guard made. Later bottom yoke modded to an earlier one. Oil tank frame clip made. Tool box frame clip made. Seat made to fit not sure what it came from but it didn't fit the bike but does now.

That rear frame tube looks to be a little on the corroded side.
