Replica long twistgrips

Postby Pete.Silson » Mon Dec 02, 2019 11:34 am

Does anybody know where I can get a decent replica long twistgrip (to go with 6" John Bull No 16 rubbers)?

Pete
I have looked everywhere and have asked the question before on the forum viewtopic.php?f=48&t=9445&hilit=twistgrip and mentioned them in these posts viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9725&hilit=twistgrip and viewtopic.php?f=25&t=9633&hilit=twistgrip

I have not found any replica ones being sold. I have seen a few second hand ones on Ebay but they go for silly money (£50 plus). I did manage to buy some new 6 inch grips at an autojumble so the grips are available. I ended up lengthening a standard twistgrip using a section from an old one and Lumiwelded the two together.

Cheers

Thanks Alan

I'll give up my search then. Replica 6" rubber grips do seem to be readily available so I might have a go at lengthening a standard twistgrip like you did.

I have an original long twist grip for my earlier WNG - I can measure or take a picture if anyone wants ?

The project also came with a top feed carb and a military "jaeger type" speedo, so I think it's genuine to the bike.

Cheers John, just the job

1: is that for 1 inch bars or the reduced to 7/8" WNG ones?

2: The part that the cable nipple fits into on the end of the tube..is that steel/brass/alloy and is the tube a push fit into it?

Andy : yes that looks like one. Didn't realise they had a steel / ferrous tube, later shorter ones are an alloy. I wonder how much it goes for...may be a few more bidders now :D

I suppose if the cable section is just a push fit on the tube then if you could get the correct size of tube you could press a longer tube into the cable holder from a short one

Cheers

7/8" bars.
Looks like the cable bit is brass and pressed over the steel tube - might be soldered on externally
