Seat/Mudguard Lug on Anstey Frame

Seat/Mudguard Lug on Anstey Frame

Has anybody ever seen this type of seat/mudguard lug before?

The frame number has an SD prefix so purports to be from a 1952 NH/VB/VH spring frame.

Yep - on a mid '50s VB rigid. (I once had as SA anstey with the one-piece lug though).
That blue and black looks familiar - don't suppose the frame came from Pete K. ??

Ha! In that case I know where it's spent most of the years since 1970-something. I believe it was originally a VH and it had a late BA box (which probably confirms it was a VH) which went on to find a very useful home elsewhere....
At one time it was parked against a fence somewhere in Weston-super-Mare, as a more-or-less complete bike - wish I'd got to it before the rest of it found legs and walked off.
Hopefully it will be resurrected (I think Kempy got most of the bits together to turn it into a VH again)!

Good luck!

Interesting.

The frame number suggests a bike from the early part of the 1952 model year. My KHA frame from the very end of the 1952 model year has the older saddle lug arrangement. Maybe they made a lot of KH frames for stock.

Paul

Are you saying that this type of lug was used on later KH frames? Was it for machines fitted with dual seats?

This type of 'lug' is just the later version of the one-piece one and was probably used on all later rigid/plunger frames (including 54/55 VB rigid).
For info my 1951 (1952 model year) rigid with an OA number is 300-odd lower in the number series than the SD 460 frame and it has the older style one-piece lug. (My dating certificate has the dispatch date as 12.9.51).
