Square 4 petrol tank

I am new to the Ariels ,what's with the removable chrome side pieces on the tank and how do you get them off, are they supposed to be there ? has this been cobbled , it has a fibreglass nacelle ,is this a cheap replacement , are they available

These chrome flashes were fitted after 1951. During the Korean War, nickel supplies were restricted by various governments & after February, 1951 model year bikes lost their chrome plated tanks and had paint and these flashes instead.

Thanks that's great i was wondering what was going on , i had a tank from a Interceptor that was found to have a block of wood at the back of it, and i thought here we go again
