SQ4 - stronger rear springs required

Postby berniejones » Sun Mar 24, 2019 7:30 pm

First ride of the year, two up, confirms that the rear springs in my '56 Anstey units are not sufficient for the job.
They are original so probably no surprise but I'm wondering what options are available as replacements?

Are there also uprated sidecar versions? If so,maybe those would be good for two-up riding around the local pot-holed lanes hereabouts.

What thoughts please?

Thanks,
Bernie

Hi Bernie, Drags are out of stock but expected to have some in 2 - 3 months time. There has been quite a bit of discussion here recently.

Thanks - I hadn't spotted that thread - seems to be exactly the same problem.
Will order a pair and wait for that 'long last' email to arrive!

Cheers,
Bernie

New springs in 0.312" wire arrived yesterday! When I removed the cap nuts there was no pressure at all on the underside. One spring had fractured in two places and both had developed a permanent set of about 30mm.

After fitting the new ones the bike is sitting much higher and a test ride confirmed all was well - no more bottoming out and noticeably improved over speed humps and poorly fitter drain covers (which we seem to have in abundance around here!).

Another plug for Harlow springs who were excellent.

Cheers,
Bernie

Hi Bernie
Glad your problem was solved.
May I ask what was the price for those springs?
