Hi

Get in touch with your local Snap On tool dealer and buy one of these in the appropriate size:

https://store.snapon.com/MultiSpline-Ex ... 75457.aspx

I have never seen or had one of these break - OK it will probably cost around a tenner but what price confidence?

Warming is a must in my opinion, off in an oven or in situ with a propane torch.

Regards Mick

I don’t want to stress the casing either, and the easy out spreads the offending item

IF you expand it you will be in strife. Use heat first to try to ease the tightness. Nev

Ended up drilling the old one, tried lots of heat cycles but it wouldn’t budge; I suspect I may never have been undone before. I pressured it using Easy-outs but it never moved despite a lot of torque. Drilled it til it was thin then picked at it with a scriber. A few wraps of ptfe tape on the thread built it up to a level that felt tight enough to give confidence

Did you get the bottom bit out? The smaller unthreaded part. Easy out's usually expand thin sections and guarantee they will not come out. You can't just block that hole. you must replace something like the original part or you get no oil to the big end.Nev

Hi Nev, the narrower bottom part came out as I drilled it, I had the cover on the bench not in situ, so blew it out with air after. I had another oil reg assy so that went in. I got what you were saying re the easy outs so only used them to apply pressure after heating and cooling. I couldn’t think of another way to apply even mild pressure ?
