1938 SQUARE FOUR THROTTLE CABLE PROBLEM

Postby ralph thetford » Mon Jun 24, 2019 5:57 pm

I an trying to fit a new throttle cable but seem to have a couple of problems---
1) At the 'Carburetter end' the outer casing of the cable should stop at the 'Cable stop bracket' but goes straight through the hole ---should there be some sort of ferule or collar to hold and control the outer in position.

2) At the 'Twist Grip' end, the cable outer casing goes right into the twist grip housing with nothing holding it in position---Again should there be some sort of ferule or collar at the point to hold and control the outer of the cable in position.

At the twist grip end there should be a ferrule. These are standard, but come in 2 sizes. The easy approach is to order one of each and see which fits. If you are really lucky, the spare one might fit the carb end. I don't know what was originally fitted here as I have made my own carb end brackets as my Squares have come without them.

Thanks again Paul, Do you know who stocks these ferrules --Do Dragonfly stock them--I have looked in their catalogue but can't find any trace of them

Ralph:
Drags have the right sort of thing but no stock of the smaller ones - see throttle stop ferrule and related ferrule on this link (hopefully)
https://www.draganfly.co.uk/triumph-sho ... op-ferrule

Feked might have some, I don't know anything about Sq.4 carbs but I'd suggest buying one of each of the last two on this list (ie last two on web page 1) and see how they do.

Hope that's some help

Hitchcocks have them:

Plus all the carburettor parts you might need.
