Lovely bike. Must admit I'd like some rear suspension...........my rigid is a bit disconcerting on these bumpy roads around here if I go at any speed above about 45-50 ish.

It must feel great blasting down the M3 at 80!!!!!!!!!!!

Next time you are down this way, drop in for a cuppa.

Safe riding,

Keith 8-)

Thanks for your comment Keith, yes the bike is a credit to the chap that restored it from a field bike he made a very impressive job of it hope my restoration jobs are up to this standard,I'm very pleased with it it's a pleasure to ride, yes it felt good to get one on the boil again a bit different from riding a modern(ish) bike feels a bit more flying by the seat of your pants but you will know that feeling on a rigid I guess never ridden one myself well except for a chopper but not for any distance as I couldn't get it to corner, if i'm down Bramley way I will drop in for a cup of char and we can try each others bikes.
Cheers Steve.

Glad you were happy with the VH Steve, you were right about it being trailed these days but the trailer was bought only 3 or 4 years ago, before that I owned one for a bit but sold it as it didn't get used. I'm glad you found a few things to do to it, It would be dull if you just bought it and rode it without putting your individual
mark on it
cheers, John H

Hello John
Yes thanks i'm well pleased with her, you put in the blood sweat and tears of a restoration, all i'm doing is a bit of routine maintenance you have obviously looked after the old girl so I will maintain that tradition ( and give her the odd high speed blast down the motorway when no ones looking ;) ) and if you need that WNG with the high lift cam road-tested I'd be glad to oblige.
Regards,Steve.

Brenton
From 1955 the swinging arm Ariels used the HF1441 Lucas horn and not the Altette. But if you are going to discard any more Altettes I would be happy to collect them before they hit the road. Swinging arm Ariels and parts are fairly scarce in Australia.

if you pull your front wheel out at any stage I would love to see a photo of the inside. In particular is the conversion still single leader or is it a duo serve type conversion.

Steve,
Most certainly. The rigid handles very nicely. The only trouble is if you don't outpace the traffic it becomes impatient and overtakes, often at the most dangerous times, hence I sometimes find myself riding a bit faster than I'd prefer!!

Ok David
When I drop the wheel out I will take some detailed photo's don't know much about it i'm afraid but will soon find out. I will ask around to see if any of the hoarders I know have any Altettes there must be loads stashed around most people i knew removed them and fitted something a bit louder like a Fiam which is what I will probably do as I have just found an old brand new one in the garage.

I've totally stripped and rebuilt my hydraulic brake, it uses two mini slave cylinders giving it a tls. It's a very clever thing, I'll try to draw up some diagrams sooner or later
