I got my kickstart from Pete Kemp Nev. Might be worth asking?

My horn bracket came from my stock - I got lucky. The SQ4 came with the angled bracket (which is wrong for the SQ4), and I found a straight bracket in eBay.
cheers

Thanks, I will try Peter.K From what I know all horn brackets (straight and right angled two piece) are reinforced near the mount point. Probably have Lucas part numbers on them. Look after that W/NG, and congratulation on your purchase. (If I haven't done that before). I've done many many miles on mine. It looks as if it's never worked on and doesn't leak oil. Oh well a bit out of the chaincase if I over do it with the fill bit. Nev

Simes,

Your engine and frame numbers match, the bike leaving the factory on 27th Oct 1942. As the Allied invasion of Italy began on 3rd Sept 1943 I think we can reasonably guess that your bike took part in the Italian campaign but was left in Italy afterwards, as quite a number of W/NGs were. Given the lack of an engine change, it may be that the bike was captured, or that it saw little use, perhaps being left in a stores dump until the war ended. You might infer more from the general level of wear and tear, notably the bore size.

that's pretty interesting Paul, the bike has lost it's original number but is declared manufactured in 1946, now this cannot be the case so I suggest it was when it was first registered after demob, would it have ben repatriated to the U.K this soon after ceasation of hostilities? the plot thickens, it is possible to obtain a vehicles hilstory from the DVLA for a fee of £5 however it could be possible that only records from the reregistering may be available, still for a fiver I will give it a try. kind regards

There is one in Sweden:
https://www.blocket.se/goteborg/Ariel_NG_1943_tillhort_RAF__samt_extra_motor_70508380.htm?ca=11&w=3
Have a nice Ariel NG 1943 (serial number indicates that it was made for the RAF during WWII) it is in good condition, the civilian painted after the war, but you can still see the color green in some places :-) It needs a little love, it has pinched . Have lift top and checked, but do not come anymore. However, I have a reconditioned engine that comes with so you can trade with. Also new cable kits for electricity, as well as some other new parts supplied.

Richard.

In my last posting I was indeed referring to Simon's bike, not yours. But bear in mind that a W/NG did not need to go abroad to see service. Plenty were well worn out running round here in the UK so a 1946 date of original registration here in the UK sounds fine to me.
