Ariel Pin Badges

Postby pete.collings » Thu Oct 12, 2017 3:17 pm

Amongst the parts I obtained in a job lot of Ariel spares earlier in the year were these pin badges. I took them along to our club night yesterday, but no-one, including the long term members, recognised them or knew what they were for.

If anyone here has seen the same or similar badges, I would be interested in knowing if they are of any significance (eg. used at shows/events, issued by the works), or are just something made as a curiousity and of no particular significance.

The job lot came from the widow of a long term Ariel owner (I would guess back to the 1960s), so I have no idea how old they might be.

Pete,
There a a couple for sale on Ebay.....appears they may well be from the late 50's to 60's. The first listing also has for sale other makes badges which use the same style of badge

One item listing for a badge of the same design says:
NOTE that these badges were not issued by the motor manufacturers ,but were free premiums distributed in things like packets of breakfast cereal.

Interesting, I never thought something like this would appear on Ebay and never looked, but I suppose almost anything with a potential value will appear at some time. Not that I have any wish to sell them, I just guess the branch members I asked didn't eat the right type of breakfast cereal!
