John Burton

Postby tomwalker » Fri Mar 20, 2020 7:32 pm

The long term owner of my Mk 11 Square 4 was John Burton. He was 2 owners ago, according to my Reg Doc, and lived near Heathrow. He sold to the previous owner in 2005.
I have tried to find a phone number, but no joy, he may have moved.
I would be grateful if any South East members know John and could put me in touch.
He re-built the bike and I want to check he did the dreaded sludge traps!!
Thanks Tom.

Wondered if your mk2 is registered SON187 ? I know John used to own that bike, it has good history as was an Ariel Press bike.

Did John fit an oil filter to the Mk11? From my experience filter fitted the sludge traps remain clear.

Hi Paul, the reg number is 45 CPU, so not the bike you mention.
Thank you for your interest.

Thanks Keith, no the bike did nt have an oil filter fitted, but I have recently done that, having read on this forum how important it is.

Hi Tom peace of mind mate, you are not going to like this bit of advice. Engine strip down to check those sludge traps also fit a club sump plate it has a magnet attached to the drain plug. I am always amazed at the amount of metal particles it picks up. I think you are grounded so good opportunity. Kind regards Keith

Hi Keith
yes I can see the logic of what you say. When did re-builders of Sq 4's start fitting oil filters? It might be quite a recent idea?
I would like to see if I can find JB, just because I would like a chat! Every bike has its own story, and it means alot to me.

Met him in the IOM when he was on SON 187, one of the bike mags did an article on that bike comparing it to a swingarm square I had at the time that was built by Graham Horne . I believe Chris Diamond knew him quite well . Are you an AOMCC member ? could always ask the question in Cheval.

Tom,

Fitting of oil filters was normal practice when I rebuilt my first Square Four back in 1988.
