I used to use a blowtorch, until I realised how easy it is to overheat the wire.
cheers

I do use a blow torch and the solder I use is the hardest I could get , which is plumbers solder , the blow torch is very small and all seems to work ok . I just used to mangle the ends of the inner cable with pliers before solder . until now . I feel like taking my cables off and re doing them now and if locked up for much longer probably will .

One of the kitchen ones? Very handy aren't they. I used one for closing a spring end the other day, the flame is small and hot so you can soften one turn without ruining the temper on the whole spring.

Actually, most of the cables on my bikes were soldered up with it. I stopped using it for that when I broke the clutch cable on the W/NG - the last 1/2" or so had been way too hot and had obviously lost it's temper. I guess I was careless that day - but I had a close look at all the others just to make sure...
cheers

how do the cable makers solder them up do they dip them in solder i heat the fitting that the cable gos in to and then add the solder to the top and let it run in till it fills the top up with a low flame with a little blowtorch i dd do them years ago with a big copper soldering iron that i put in our forge but we don't use it now it all done now with induction heating to heat metal and that will be to hot to solder

Yep, that's the way I do them too. I made a solder pot from a small copper ladle, I heat it with a propane torch and use Baker's Fluid as a flux - no danger of overheating the inner.

There used to be a good video on the Venhill web site showing how to solder nipples with a solder pot, don't know if its still there.

Regards Mick

Nice tool to have!
He always thought of her, but did not know what her name or search is ..
The 1.5mm,2mm and 2.5mm dia. wire channel seem to be square...
One more thing in the list of projects to build
Thank for sharing
