Ariel colt paint colour

Hi and evening everyone,

Does anyone know which shade of Green the 1955 Colt was painted?

I think its Brunswick Green, and after having a conversation with my local paint shop. They then said there are 3 shades - Light, Medium and Dark..

So, what's the consensus?

I think you need someone to give you a RAL code. I have seen some bikes done to 'original' spec where the shade was wrong and they just look so 'wrong'!

Looking elsewhere on this forum I found...

I'm sure it's been discussed somewhere on the net recently. Make sure you get a definitive answer. Someone in the club must know.

yeh.. I agree, needs to be the right shade.. nothing worse than looking at something that has been painted and thinking... "mmmmm.. not quite right"....

I will speak to the paint shop and suggest BMC Reseda Green, see what they say.. in the mean time I will keep searching.. my eyes are getting tired this week the amount of time I am online looking for stuff... lol..

DON'T USE RESEDA GREEN.

This colour is the export green colour for late 1930s to early 1950s and is a fairly bright green. The Colt green is very much darker. If you can't do better, PM me and I will contact someone who knows Colts through and through, not only their colour, and see if he would be prepared to help you. Chances are very high that he would want to.

I’m not associated with them in any way, and have not used them myself, but it’s nice that they actually list the Colt, and the different colours available in different years.

hi you can get the paint from RS paint but i find they are very dear for their paints etc, and a lot of club members say so to, i get my off a good car paint suppliers a lot cheaper

I've used RS to match Honda paint twice. Yes, they are expensive but I'd like to say that buying from them is very easy (especially in lockdown), their paint is very good quality and yes, it matched 1978 paint perfectly.

If you want cheap, then use British Racing Green which is pretty damn close.
